Energy prices continue to rise and people are looking for new ways to lower their utility bills.  Foam insulation is becoming the insulation of choice because it cuts energy costs by as much as 60% over conventional insulation.  Foam insulation may be sprayed to wood, metal, concrete, masonry and gypsum board surfaces, making it one of the most versatile insulation material.  The foam fills nooks and crannies better than any other type of insulation.  It is a two-part liquid system that quickly expands over 100 times the initial spray.  It then cures to form a fully adhered, solid, monolithic insulation envelope.

Traditional attics are termed "vented" attics as outside air is brought in through the ventilated sofits and out the top ridge vent.  Insulation such as fiberglass or cellulose blown is sprayed on the attic floor to keep that attic air from reaching the inside of the home.  Attic air is very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.  It is important that good ventilation is accomplished in the attic to reduce attic temperatures in the summer and to move out moisture at all times.  Often, heating and cooling duct work is in the attic.  Leakage occurs through the duct work into the attic air and it leaks faster the hotter or colder the temperature. The result of this leaking is lost temperature going to the vents in the home. To eliminate a great deal of this leakage and to accomplish a temperature in the attic similar to the inside home temperature, foam insulation is a good alternate to vented attics.

Homes insulated with foam insulation under the roof deck are more efficient than insulation placed on the attic floor.  Spray foam blocks convective looping, radiation and air infiltration.  This building science is called "unvented attics or conditioned attics."

Foam insulation can be used in crawl spaces, under piling homes, in walls and attics.  Insulating with foam involves the practice of sealing up the housing envelope by insulating the roof deck rather than the attic floor to help prevent hot or cold air from entering the structure.  It can also be used in walls and floors and in many commercial applications.

There are three types normally used in residential and commercial building applications, which are called closed cell foam, open cell foam and hurricane foam adhesive.  Our knowledgeable sales team at Advanced Insulation will consult with you as to which is better for your situation and advise you on advantages of each type, along with price differences.
